I was invited by the Italian publisher NUINUI BOOKS to take part in their World Mythologies series, where I created the section on Chinese mythology.
It’s a subject I’ve always been deeply interested in, and the editor encouraged me to bring in elements I personally love. So the works began to take shape with the patterns of Chinese ceramics, the rhythm of traditional textiles, and the distinctive perspective of export paintings. For me, it wasn’t just about illustrating stories, but about reassembling different cultural symbols and letting them speak to one another on the same page.
What came out of it feels like a natural extension of my own interests—adding something unfamiliar into what looks familiar. Perhaps it’s exactly this sense of not being fully certain that allows mythological narratives to stay open and invite imagination.
