Exhibition The Temporal Shift of Camellia

Developed during an artist residency, this project explores the relationship between time, material, and perception through the image of a camellia.

The work consists of twenty-eight watercolour pieces assembled into a single flower. From a distance, the image appears unified; up close, subtle variations in colour, texture, and mark-making reveal shifts across time and condition.

The number twenty-eight operates as a unit of natural rhythm, echoing cycles of renewal. Rather than unfolding sequentially, these fragments are brought together within a single plane, forming a non-linear structure where multiple states coexist. Material plays a central role in the construction of meaning. Fluid washes and pigment diffusion evoke organic growth, while areas of restraint introduce distance and temporal separation.

The camellia is not presented as a fixed image, but as a constructed form—an accumulation of time, memory, and transformation within a single visual field.
